On June 10, an individual entered the gallery at The 567 Center for Renewal during business hours under the pretense of viewing the art and robbed our executive director at gunpoint. While this was a serious incident, we are relieved to share that our executive director was not physically harmed. No property or money belonging to The 567 Center was taken.
This was an isolated and unexpected act, and we are cooperating fully with law enforcement. The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office has released a photo of the suspect, and anyone with information is encouraged to contact them directly.
Out of an abundance of caution and to allow for a brief period of personal leave, we made the decision to postpone the Great Art Hunt, our annual fundraising event. However, all other classes and events will continue as planned unless announced otherwise. The gallery remains open during regular hours (Monday–Friday, 11 am–4 pm), with additional safety measures now in place, including a locked-door policy when staff are working alone and new security systems being installed.
Since 2010, The 567 Center has brought vibrant arts events to downtown Macon, attracting, inspiring, and connecting people across Middle Georgia. Over 15 years, our work has supported the revitalization of Macon’s urban core—now home to thriving businesses, successful artists, beautifully renovated historic buildings, public art, and a diverse, growing community.
We—and our executive director—remain committed to our mission of fostering creativity, connection, and community through the arts.
As we move forward, here are key ways you can support The 567 Center:
